Mother!

ダーレン・アロノフスキーの新作「Mother!」は早くも最低映画の評判を得ていますが、「レクイエム・フォー・ドリーム」以来の傑作。特にミシェル・ファイファーのビッチぶりは是非劇場で見て欲しい！！

I call this fantastic movie as “Super Nova dark comedy”.

It has everything from birth to death and rebirth and quite funny sometimes if you like a very dark comedy (if not, it is not your movie). Lots of layers of rich analogies: a man/husband vs. a woman/wife/mother (both are nameless), a house maker vs. a creator (an artist and a creator of the world) and so on. Everyone can relate to the main characters to some degree.

I can see lots of influence from other movies/play such as ‘”Rosemary’s Baby’”,
“Carrie”, “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Wolf?” Bunuel , Pasolini and classic slapstick comedies, yet, this is an original work of art.

Best Darren Aronofsky’s movie since “Requiem for a Dream” and his previous works (including horrible “The Fountain”) skillfully and naturally accumulated into this movie.

Superb acting from all the super solid charismatic stars. Best performance to date from Jennifer Lawrence and for the first time, I thought she looks actually beautiful. No wonder she and Aronofsky have been together. Her usual aggressiveness mixed with this character’s passiveness became into an interesting and effective mix of passive-aggressive.

Javier Bardem perfectly nice, likeable, jerk, and lonely. Ed Harris and Michelle Pfeiffer as unexpected houseguests are so juicy and worth watching in the theater just for them (especially, Pfeiffer as an uber bitch!). It is 2 movies in 1, not just because they played in the first part, but also, how the things unusually became accelerated and dense in a perfectly gripping pace.
